Textile objects/sculptures
fabric, beads, bells, holofiber
In this ongoing series, the artist creates tactile totems based on interviews with twenty women artists who use textiles as a medium. Each interviewee shares a word of personal significance, which the artist re- interprets into embroidered, sculptural forms. Some of the pieces produce sound, adding a sensory dimension that extends beyond the visual. These objects, like letters in an evolving alphabet, embody both personal and collective meaning, transforming language into material and ritual.
The totemic forms become symbols of individual experience and shared artistic and feminine rituals. By working with textiles, media historically dismissed as domestic or decorative, the artist participates in a feminist reclamation of space for care, vulnerability, and embodied knowledge. This echoes Linda Nochlin’s critique of the historical invisibility of women in art, confronting the marginalization of feminine practices in the contemporary canon.
VOCABULARY is a ritualistic experiment in translating conversation into form, where meaning is felt, heard, and shared. These objects act as sensitive, sensory responses to the symbolic and spoken, inviting viewers to reflect, listen, and engage in a collective reimagining of language.
